Family: Pinaceae (Pine family).

Synonym: Shore Pine, Beech Pine.

Contorta or Shore pine has been introduced to Britain from North-west America in 1855. It can survive in harsh coastal climates and has been used as a clearing-crop in Scotland, Wales and North-east England on poor high peat and moorland.
