Family: Pinaceae (Pine Family)

Synonym: Christmas Tree (in Britain), Picea excelsa, Red Spruce, Red Fir.

This is one of the many trees, which probably was indigenous before the Ice age, but it was not reintroduced through human activity until about 1500 CE.
Following the Victorian example of Prince Albert, young Norway Spruces are the most common evergreen to be used as a Christmas tree in the UK.
The Norway Spruce is one of the most important timber trees in Europe.
