Many people from cultures, who lived close to Nature, started their day by greeting the Dawn straight after they rose from their beds. It is a lovely invigorating thing to do. Step outside all by yourself and lift up your arms towards the sky stretching and reaching out with delight. You can greet the dawn as a quiet meditation, you can sing, you can do Tai Chi or you can do an ancient dance with the aid of a tree, as described at the bottom of the page. Bright blessings on your days!

Salutation to the Dawn

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life,
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn.

Ancient Dawn Dance

Dance by making a rhythm through stomping (gently) twice with your left foot on the ground and then twice with your right foot in turn. Again hold your arms up in celebration as if they were the branches of your tree or your wings, etc. Feel how you are connecting "Heaven and Earth" as you are doing this by rooting in (or connecting with) the Earth with your feet, and rooting in (or connecting with) the Sky with your arms.

You may find that you want to make a sound or sing to go with it. Singing  sounds like "Haya" or "Aya" repeatedly is a time-honoured practice, as these sounds open up your being and connect it to  "the Source".
In many mystical tradition around the world, the soft "Aaaaaaa...." sound is said to be the sound of the heart chakra. It is therefore the sound of choice to generate peace and compassion when it resonates in your heart centre.
The "Haya" or "Aya" sounds are a great way to string the "Aaa...." sound together in a rhythmic dance.

There is also a simple technique for helping you to go into a trance during this connecting process: Flicker your eyelids, so the light you perceive is rather like the strobe lights of a disco. Doing this by looking up at the branches of a tree is said to be even more powerful. In summer the wonderful soft green light given by the graceful Birch was a favourite for this practice.
